90% of businesses are actively using Social Media.

75% of Americans use Social Media according to Nielsen, on average 15 minutes of every hour online is used in Social Media and 75% of businesses surveyed plan to increase their Social Media footprint in 2011!
These are some of the staggering stats coming from the 2011 Social Media Marketing Industry Report by Michael Stelzner, which will be available on Thursday April 6th, from socialmediaexaminer.com at this link:

Is Social Media out of your reach?

HelpI've done a lot of travelling and often to some fairly dangerous places. When you land somewhere you have never been before, you want to find a guide you can trust.

Recently I have been to some Social Media talks, most of them to get an idea of how it feels to be on the other side of technology, and two things are for sure,

  1. Many people who know they need to be in Social Media are bewildered, confused and extremely frustrated;
  2. and the answers they get to their questions and concerns are not helping them to participate.

Who's Game?

In this excellent TED video Seth Priebatsch speaks about School as a game, but not a particularly well designed game:
"If we called 'Valedictorian' a 'White Knight Paladin level 20' I think people would probably work a lot harder."

I believe that Social Media has set the stage for serious game playing.

Last decade was the decade of social, this next decade is the decade of games. Seth Priebatsch

Contracts vs Hire

MapThe US Department of Labour's Bureau of Labor Statistics sounds like a fun place to work!
Nonetheless they have recently released some unemployment statistics and someone has made them into an exciting interactive map:

The stats cover state by state unemployment records from January 2007 when the national unemployment rate was at a mere 4.6% to May 2010 when it reached 9.7%!
